Not sure if I’ll get chance to add anything more before Christmas, although my own work is developing nicely through my relationship with Salisbury Museum. I’m focusing on the role art and science play in the continuous re-modeling of nature in popular culture. Particularly through exploration/collecting/documenting and classification.
So, whilst I am absorbed in natural history specimens and all things Darwin related (two big anniversaries next year) here’s a couple of pictures of a particularly friendly robin that followed me and my dog Moshi on a recent walk… Happy Christmas!

With the lack of snow these last few years (around here at least) the frosted ground and cracked earth are about as wintry as things get, but still beautiful.

This week, we have been joining all the discoveries together to start some wearable artwork inspired by what we have seen and experienced… the textures of the trees and leaves, the bones and fossils found at the museum, the costumes we tried on, the new materials and sensory exploration, all rolled into one.

I’m spending a bit of time looking through images of old work at the moment, reflecting on how older and newer pieces relate to each other, and what I can learn from what I’ve tried before.
Here are some images of vessels created in about 1995 to document my experience of particular places, using the sticks, earth and found objects discovered there, together with text written on site describing my thoughts and sensations.

These last couple of weeks the children have been exploring again, this time focusing on texture using clay to investigate the school’s outside space. Once dry we added colour to highlight detail and remember the mosaics on display back at the Museum.

We have also been looking at wearable art and costume, with the children trying on different period outfits and planning their ideas for their own body-masks, to be made next week based on the discoveries at school and The Museum so far.
